How to make a whip with your own hands: instructions with pictures

do-it-yourself whip

BDSM is practiced by quite a few, although not everyone admits it. However, the equipment is quite expensive. Even without touching the price of all kinds of devices and machines, you will have to pay a fair amount of money for ordinary whips and handcuffs.

On the one hand, these things are necessary in BDSM practice, unless, of course, you will be limited to almost vanilla silk ties scarves and pats on the partner's bottom with the palm of your hand. On the other hand, a quality product will cost you as much as a kilometer of silk scarves.

And then skillful hands come to the rescue, capable of doing anything from improvised materials. This time, that “whatever” will be a paracord whip.

Paracord, it must be said, is a type of nylon. It is characterized by lightness and strength. The latter can be judged, if only because it was used as parachute lines. Thousands of successfully landed skydivers will definitely not let you lie as a paracord.

As for the technique, it should not be particularly difficult for people who know at least a little how to weave ropes and knit a knot. For beginners, of course, it is better not to take this instruction.

It will be necessary to carefully and accurately braid 12 strands more than 3.5 meters long. And this is not possible for everyone. And you also need to learn how to tie certain types of knots so that the whip looks beautiful.

As a result, you should get a whip 2.5 meters long. And, with due diligence, it will take at least a week to create.

Instructions on how to make a whip with your own hands

  • Step one: Materials needed.

    — Paracord: 60 meters. Better take more;

    — Thin chain: 2 meters;

    — Electrical tape or tape;

    — Big nail. That is, large enough to be the base of the handle;

    — Threads;

    — Scissors or knife;

    — Matches or a lighter to burn off the ends of the paracord, so it will not unravel and fray;

    — Measuring tape;

    — File. For cutting grooves in the handle;

    — A vise where the whip can be held. Although you can just squeeze it between your knees;

    — Patience. The most important component.

    • Step two: Learn to weave the necessary knots.

    As mentioned above, you will have to learn (or refresh your knowledge) to weave various knots. They will be needed for both practical and decorative purposes. We will not teach here, so you will have to look for information yourself. Fortunately, there are a lot of sources.

    But we will give a list of exactly which knots will be needed: a semi-hitch with a knot on top, a brand, a constrictor (for connecting strands), a star knot (for a handle), a Turkish head (for the base of a handle), a knot Matthew Walker (holds the last knot on the handle well), any stranded knot to decorate the handle (in the form of braid or crown),

    • Step three: cut the ropes to the desired length
    How to make a whip with your own hands: instructions with pictures

    So, what kind of ropes do we need. Our whip will have three layers: a base to give weight and bounce, and two additional layers wrapped around it. For the base, you need to cut ropes 2 m, 1 m, 80 cm and 50 cm long. As well as three pieces of a thin chain of 90 cm, 60 cm and 30 cm.

    The first layer will consist of 8 strands braided (4 strands folded in half to look neater). And these are 2 strands of 5 m (or 4 of 2.5 m), 1 strand of 3 m (or 2 of 1.5 m), 1 strand of 4.3 m (or 2 of 2.15 m). The outer layer will be consist of 12 braided strands (again, 6 folded in half). This is 2 strands of 7.3 m, 1 strand — 5.5 m, 1 — 5 m, 1 — 4.3 m, 1 — 3 m.

    But this is not an exact science, with such a calculation there will be a small remainder. But it's better than weaving for several days, and then realizing that the rope is not enough. Right?

    The length of rope you'll need depends on how tight you'll be braiding and how thick the rope will be.

    • Step Four: Prepare the base.

    For this step, you will need the first 4 strands of paracord and 3 pieces of chain. That is, paracord: 2 m, 1 m, 80 cm, 50 cm. Chain: 90 cm, 60 cm, 30 cm.

    And now there will be a difficult and responsible moment. You will need to pull the inner strands from the 3 shortest pieces of paracord and thread chains of the appropriate length there. But it is very difficult to do so. Many methods have been tried: by hand, with a needle, by tying a wire. But nothing happened. Only one option worked perfectly: carefully pull out 6 or 7 inner strands, then tie the eighth strand to the chain using the smallest knot and slowly pull it out. The chain will take its place. If the last strand slips out without a chain, you will have to push it back. It's best to do this with wire. Or just cut another piece of paracord and try again;

    • Step five: Start making the base.

    Now you need to tie these first strands to the handle. Using a file, we make a notch at the end of the nail. So that you can tie strands of paracord there. We tie the strands, evenly distributing them over the nail and fix with a constrictor in place of the groove, using one of the strands pulled out of the paracord. You need to do this as tightly as possible or the whip will simply fall apart. After that, the constrictor is fixed with a brand so that it does not slip off. For a fortress, you can add a couple more knots or tape, but be careful with this so that this whole structure does not come out too thick. Trim the strands closer to the knots (but not too close so they don't come loose);

    • Step Six: Twist the strands properly.
    How to make a whip with your own hands: instructions with pictures

    In order for the whip to bend in all directions, you need to correctly and properly twist the strands together. If you have made a twisted rope before, then there should not be any special problems. If not, then you can watch the video. Basically, twist each strand a little in one direction, and then lay it next to the others, twisting in the opposite direction;

    • Step Seven: Wrap the inside.

    After everything is neatly twisted, the inside must be wrapped in tape. The adhesive tape should be placed at an angle of 45 ° to the strands and wrapped in one even strip to the very end of the third strand. You need to try to make the base even and round. If the tape doesn't seem enough, you can add a layer of duct tape;

    • Step Eight: Begin the first layer.

    Now you can proceed to the first layer. We take the paracord of the required length to braid the braid of eight strands. 2 strands of 5 m (or 4 of 2.5 m), 1 strand of 3 m (or 2 of 1.5 m), 1 strand of 4.3 m (or 2 of 2.15 m). The inner strands need to be pulled out and left for later. Do not forget that the strands must first be burned. Now the gutted paracord will lie flat. You can further straighten it by wrapping it around the pipe.

    You need to bend four strands in half, you will have to work with the middle of the cord. It doesn't matter how exactly they are grouped.

    Take the first pair (again, it doesn't matter which one) and cross them in front of the handle.

    Pass the second pair through the loop. The main thing is to make sure that the length is the same everywhere.

    • Step Nine: Weave an eight-strand layer.

    Now let's start the main part of the weaving. Just do not be afraid, everything is not as scary as it seems and it is quite easy to remember. The main thing is that the strands are even, neat and do not cross.

    You have 4 strands on each side. Start at the top right. In this pass, this strand will be “working”. We take the working strand, wrap it around the back side so that it comes out on the left, where there are four more strands. We carry out a working strand under the first two and over the last two. We turn to the right side. The working strand will align with the 3 remaining strands on the right. It starts on the top right and ends on the bottom right. That's one pass. Now you need to do the same with the top strand on the left side, only wrapping it around the strands on the right.

    That's the whole point. We take the upper strand, lead to the opposite side, draw over the first two and under the second two strands, lead again to our side so that the strand is below. And repeat it all over and over again;

    • Step Ten: Do it neatly.

    If you want the braid to be neat and as even as possible, then it is better to tighten it well. And it's best to tighten all the strands after you make four “passes” (2 on the right, 2 on the left). Just hold the strands firmly on both sides and tighten them one by one, starting from the top.

    Tighten the strands regularly as you weave. When you get to the point where the length of the shortest strands is over, you will face another problem. But more on that in the next step;

    • Step Eleven: How to throw strands

    do-it-yourself whip

    When you get to the point where the whip becomes thinner, you will have to discard two working strands so that their number continues to correspond to the thickness. This is also just a step and there should be no problems with the transition to 6 strands from 8. At this point, two strands should be almost finished (10-15 cm or so remain). And it is these strands that we will throw.

    In the course of weaving, each of the strands in turn is at the top. You need to throw the strands just before that. You just need to let the strands fall under the plane in which all the strands of the corresponding side are aligned. After that, we push the two lower strands closer to the top. Thus, 3 threads are obtained: the upper and 2 lower ones. And we continue to work with the upper strand on the opposite side as if nothing had happened. Only now we draw it over one strand and under two. You need to make sure that the thrown strand is well fixed to the whip with the working strand.

    When it's time for the next strand — just repeat it all.

    The main thing to remember is that now when weaving, the working strand passes over one strand on the opposite side and under two.

    After a couple of passes, when it is clear that the strands are good fixed, they can be cut off. Both of these will remain hidden in the braid we are doing;

    • Step Twelve: Finishing the first layer.
    How to make a whip with your own hands: instructions with pictures

    At some point, the whip will again become thinner and you will have to throw the next two strands again. The technique remains the same. When there are four strands left in the braid, the formula will be: the working strand passes over one strand and under one strand. You need to weave until the warp becomes a single strand of paracord. There should be another 15 centimeters left.

    Now you need to temporarily secure the strands with duct tape until the second layer is ready. For convenience, you can mark the places where the whip became thinner and you had to throw strands. In these places, you can tie a small knot or use tape;

    • Step Thirteen: Making a solid handle

    lash DIY

    At this point, our entire structure should already resemble a whip. But until it's time to play with it, you need to finish something else. For example, it is worth strengthening the transition from the handle to the base so that it is firmer. You need to put a few knots, and wrap the rope several times, tightening it very tightly.

    After that, you need to wrap it all with tape and electrical tape.

    • Step Fourteen: Weaving a braid of 12 strands for the outer layer.

    Sounds scary, right? But, in fact, everything is not so difficult. First, of course, you need to cut the paracord of the required length: 2 strands of 7.3 m, 1 strand — 5.5 m, 1 — 5 m, 1 — 4.3 m, 1 — 3 m. We take out the insides, straighten it and bend it in half.

    The braid is also braided, only the strands are grouped in 3 (the working strand passes over 3 from above and 3 from below). Do not forget to tighten the braid and weave carefully. Gradually, when we reach the level of thinning of the whip, we discard the strands. Weave our 8 strands until we reach the point where we temporarily secured the strands with tape. We remove the adhesive tape, cut off the two shortest strands of the inner layer and continue to weave a braid over them. After reaching the last point, leave (should be 10-15 cm);

    • Step fifteen: Finish.

    Here some difficulties may arise. At the end, there should be 4 strands from the braid and 1 from the base. Cut off a piece of paracord (do not forget to burn the ends). We make a hole at one end, pass the other end through it. We place this loop at the end of our whip. Now all this needs only to be tied up and brought beauty. In theory, everything is very simple: each of the 5 strands must be tied around all the other strands. In practice, this is very difficult to get confused, so it's best not to tighten it too much yet.

    When we finish tying all five knots, we need to take something thin (a knitting needle, for example), and stretch the last strand through all the knots . Then pass the end through the loop, tighten it and pull the foul of the whip so that it is inside the knots along with the last strand. Tie tightly and cut off the ends.

    This is the last thing to do in order for the whip to be fully functional. This is the part that makes that sound when you swing it. And this is the part of the whip that wears out and requires periodic replacement. Which, however, is quite simple to do.

    Cut off a piece of paracord. Fold in half and twist. We tie both ends with a simple knot. Yes, the ends need to be slightly melted. And tie the whips to the foul;

    • Step seventeen: Personalization!

    Congratulations, you made your whip. Now you can decorate it the way you want. For example, make a star knot or a Matthew Walker knot at the end of the handle. To make the whip unique, use different colors of paracord, wrap the handle in leather, use different types of weaves and knots, use a wooden handle instead of a nail;

    • Step Eighteen: Field Testing.

    Now it's time to play with your new toy. And here the main thing is the technique, not the strength of the swing. There are a huge number of videos on how to use the whip correctly. It's best to study them well before you try to play Indiana Jones. And don't forget to wear face protection first.
