Bobbi Starr: can a feminist act in porn

Bobbie Starr

A graduate of a prestigious university, a music teacher, a professional oboist, a national-level swimmer – and all this is about the star of adult films Bobbi Starr.

But how such a versatile girl could end up in porn?

Bobbi herself answered this in one of the many interviews that became a real bomb in the fem community: “I don’t feel humiliated by acting in films for adults, because this is my decision, which no one forced me to. I know that if I ever felt uncomfortable, all I had to do was say no and it all stopped. The porn industry cannot do without women. Is it possible to consider those who control the situation as humiliated?

From a nerd to a porn star

Bobbi Starr was born on April 6, 1983 in Santa Clara, California, USA. She is half Italian, half Hungarian. The star grew up in a large creative family. Her mother worked as a church choir director, as a child, Bobby admired her so much that she herself began to look for her vocation in art, carried away by ballet and playing the piano.

Other children in the family also played musical instruments. And one of her sisters is an artist (the tattoo on the lower back of a girl in the form of a fairy is her work). Bobby's relatives never prevented her from participating in the porn business, only expressed concern.

Elizabeth Evans (Elizabeth Evans), namely this name she was given at birth, was seriously going to connect her life with music. The star graduated from the University of San Jose with an oboe and piano class. Who would have thought that a budding girl who gave her heart to literature, philosophy and music would end up in porn? But fate is changeable: a new boyfriend appeared in Bobby's life, who brought her together with several major figures in the porn industry.

She admits that at that time she was a botanist and disappeared in libraries, and she herself did not expect that such an adventure would interest her. A year later, at the age of 23, the future porn actress moved to Los Angeles and decided on her first shooting for one of the online studios – Kink.com. The girl chose the pseudonym “Bobby” because she wanted to have a gender-neutral name. The surname “Starr” joined as a consonant.

The early works were made in the style of bandage and coercion, the public liked the girl's non-standard appearance for porn – no blond hair and silicone breasts. In 2008 and 2009, Bobbie received the Best Starlet of the Year and Star of the Year awards. She realized that it was time, both figuratively and literally, to expand the capabilities of her body, and focused on anal and oral sex. Her success has not gone unnoticed. A year later, she took the statuettes “The most hard sex scene”, “The best double penetration scene”, “Super whore” and “Oral orgasm”.

Throughout her career, Bobbi has worked with various studios including Red Light District Video, Combat Zone, New Sensations and Evil Angel. She also appeared as a finalist on the reality show American Pornstar, a parody of America's Next Top Model. She liked working with men who took an active position. Bobbi has always referred to Rocco Sifredi as a god, and when the porn industry brought them together, he lived up to her expectations.

Bobby believes that filming in porn revealed her bisexuality. Sex with men is pleasant to her as an experiment, but she gets real pleasure with women. The girl vehemently denies that adult films negatively affect the formation of personality: “Porn has not changed me. On the contrary, it made me better and stronger than I was before.”

Bobbi starred in the hit adaptation of James Sallis' novel Drive alongside Ryan Gosling, Carey Mulligan and Christina Hendricks. Despite the fact that the girl never ended up in the final version of the film, intended for the mass audience, she believes that this is one of the most amazing adventures in her life. Gradually, Bobbie went headlong into directing and producing, and after the birth of her son Eliot, she stopped acting. Starr now writes columns for Popporn.com and Fox Magazine.

Why Bobbi Starr chose feminism

Few people wonder what else you need to know about a woman if she has already undressed? Bobbi Starr is like a multi-layered onion, with each layer revealing something new. Bobby's fans appreciate her simplicity and intelligence. She doesn't look like a classic porn star, but like a girl from a parallel class who can be introduced to her mother. Bobby avoids bright makeup, extreme diets and plastic surgery.

At the dawn of her career, she said that porn revealed to her the essence of a woman: everyone has the right to be different. “What really surprised me about porn is that girls don’t look like starved anorexics, they are real. Porn actresses don't think about the fact that they can't afford another piece of cheesecake, because it will definitely be deposited in fat. Unlike models, they don't need to calculate calories and fear they won't get hired.

Adult movies with super skinny girls don't sell well because people want to see real sex. They need a body, something that can be wrapped around their hands or lips. I'm afraid that if someone's bony ass is on my face, I'll be left with bruises. Bobbi doesn't abuse adult content, and her social media is more likely to find gluten-free cookie recipes or a review of the last movie you watched than industry news.

Starr considers herself a professional sex feminist. Although most representatives of this movement regard pornography as a degrading activity, Bobby does not agree with them. “They believe that all women who get into porn are victims who have suffered from the cruelty of men and have become toys of the patriarchy. This is too primitive a point of view.

Many of the companies I have filmed for have women in leadership positions. There are those who shoot light lesbian scenes, there are those who work in the hardcore direction. It's funny that the really lewd stuff about porn actors usually comes from female directors like Belladonna. I'm not saying that every porn actress is a model of emotional and mental stability, but there are a lot of those who came here consciously.

I believe that women should be equal to men. But when a man takes me over, I don't want to act like I've been brainwashed and scream about being raped. I really love different kinds of sex. Why am I being made a victim if I like what they do to my body? Sex is fun. I advise all feminists to try it.”

Plans for the future

Bobbi is interested in pursuing a degree in medicine because she dreams of eventually becoming a gynecologist and returning to the business in a new capacity. The girl believes that specialists in this profession are necessary to make the porn industry safe. “When you go to the doctor, you can’t always formulate correctly what is happening to you. Our profession is condemned by society, we do not know who to ask questions that concern us, and whether we can be sure of anonymity. I would like real porn experts to work in the testing centers.”

Bobby says that in porn brought her curiosity. Many people live a normal sex life, but they are interested in how it would be with two partners and how they would feel if they had sex for several hours in a row, for example, with Nacho Vidal or Rocco Sifreddi. For most, this remains a fantasy. Porn helps to expand the boundaries of consciousness.

The girl is ready to fight for increasing public empathy. The 1950s are long gone, but people continue to project their expectations onto porn stars. Some talk about actresses as victims, others dream of saving them, others accuse them of debauchery and greed. But no one wants to think that they are happy and have found their calling.
